I couldn't help but think of The Wedding Singer scene at the bank job interview when you mentioned giving all your employees business cards - "I will give you five singing lessons for one business card!"

In all seriousness, there are some good suggestions here - and not just for college-age employees, either. Many of the same kind of things that motivate them motivate people who are well out of college as well. Actually, this list doesn't sound so much like it's about motivation as it does creating a positive work environment.

I agree with supplying what employees need. You save time, money and you have happier employees.

Adding to that, I personally think that if Last.fm or Pandora was around when I started my career, I wouldn't be as curmudgeonly today.

So many companies seem to not understand what makes young employees feel valued. Honestly, I know quite a few people that would enjoy their jobs more if their work computers/networks weren't so slow, if they were trusted to use Facebook and Youtube sparingly (rather than them being blocked), or if they felt like, because they're working so many hours, their jobs would have food readily available for them. Sure, these are all upfront expenses that do not yield easily measurable results, but aren't dedication, motivation, and low turnover rates ultimately more valuable than saving a few bucks at the outset?
