It is practiced by many religions as a means of appeasing a god or gods or changing the course of nature. It also served a social or economic function in those cultures where the edible portions of the animal were distributed among those attending the sacrifice for consumption. Animal sacrifice has turned up in almost all cultures, from the Hebrews to the Greeks and Romans (particularly the purifying ceremony Lustratio) , Ancient Egyptians (for example in the cult of Apis) and from the Aztecs to the Yoruba. Animal sacrifice is still practiced today by the followers of Santería and other lineages of Orisa as a means of curing the sick and giving thanks to the Orisa (gods). However in Santeria, such animal offerings constitute an extremely small portion of what are termed ebos—ritual activities that include offerings, prayer and deeds. Christians from some villages in Greece also sacrifice animals to Orthodox saints in a practice known as kourbània. The practice, while publicly condemned, is often tolerated for the benefits it provides to the church and the sense of community it engenders.online casino

Re: Sacrifice

Oh man, I didn't take off my shirt for you at UH? You've opened yourself up to the criticism of those you respect (How many people can handle that? Takes a real man, IMHO) and you've decided you'll work on this thing til it pops. Good for you!

If you'd like another point of view on why we do this and how to "make it happen" without quite as much blood sweat and tears on our part, a good friend of mine, a prosperity and business coach is producing an e-course called "Wealth Maverick" The site isn't all the way up as of 12-5-08, but should be soon. here's the link http://wealthmaverickaudios... Best of luck to you, because the more people like you succeed wildly, the more people like "them" will say "hey, I can do that, too!"
Much love

Re: Sacrifice

Yes indeedy, sacrifice is involved for sure but allow me to list a few of the benefits from one who's been happily self employed since 1997...ability to schedule time to attend my kids' events and respond quickly to their emergencies, not be limited by a job description and thus have creative opportunities no employer would ever have offered me...no limits on my paycheck as long as I'm creative enough and have good relationships with others...building the self-sufficiency "backbone" which has served me well in business and personal life...learning how to not take things quite so personally...creating work I can do until the day I drop...knowing there will be no Friday afternoon "pink slip" to take me by surprise...teaching my children how to be self-sufficient and resourceful...developing a whole new set of friendships that I might otherwise never have had the chance to experience...knowing my work is serving others and helping them improve their work/lives...relating more closely to my Dad who has been self-employed his whole life...able to draw limits on how much I work and fit in time for health and professional development...and the list could go on!

Welcome to blogging!

Re: Sacrifice

There is something called balance in your life. Figuring out your priorities would maybe put things into perspective. If Tatango were to fail, who would be there to help you back on your feet? Your family will always support you- but you need to give them a bit of your time to recognize THEIR sacrifice of letting you spend Christmas away from them, and the sadness it causes THEM to never be able to see their busy son.

Re: Sacrifice

So true. There is a ton of sacrifice in entrepreneurship but the reward of creating something from nothing is such a great feeling .

Re: Sacrifice

Makes me wonder how Mark Zuckerberg is still alive. :-P
